The beliefs a person holds around their ability to handle situations, accomplish tasks and achieve goals can be a strong determining factor in the success of their endeavors. Low self-efficacy may prevent ourselves from reaching our full potential; but luckily, self-efficacy is a muscle that can be built. Bandura’s (1997) self-efficacy theory has been central in the field of human motivation and offers a sound framework that can partly accommodate the effects of self-talk on performance.
